Vehicle PartsSikaflex P2G Premium Auto Glass Urethane Adhesive
Sikaflex P2G Premium is a thick, black polyurethane adhesive used to bond replacement automotive glass to a vehicle. It comes ready to apply with no mixing required and cures by reacting with moisture in the air.
What Is Included?
- Sikaflex P2G Premium black polyurethane adhesive in the quantity specified in the selected listing or pack option.
- One-component formula – no separate hardener or mixing required.
- Check the selected pack quantity and cartridge size before ordering. Adhesive coverage depends on the window size and required bead dimensions.
- Application tools, cleaners, and surface-preparation products are not included unless specifically stated in the listing.
Which Windows Can I Use It On?
Designed for direct-glazed automotive glass, meaning windows bonded into the vehicle with urethane adhesive. Depending on the vehicle’s installation requirements, this can include:
- Windshields.
- Fixed rear windows or back glass.
- Fixed quarter windows.
- Fixed vent windows that require urethane bonding.
The mounting method matters: Not every window uses adhesive. Do not assume this product is suitable for roll-down door windows, hinged windows, or gasket-mounted glass. It is not a resin for repairing windshield chips or cracks.
What Is Primer, and What Does “Primerless to Glass” Mean?
Primer is a separate surface-preparation coating used in some glass installation systems to help adhesive bond to a surface. Depending on the primer and application, it may also help protect exposed metal against corrosion or provide UV protection.
- No separate glass primer or activator: P2G Premium bonds to properly prepared glass and ceramic frit without a separate Sika primer or activator.
- What is ceramic frit? The ceramic border, usually black, found around many automotive windows.
- Cleaning is still required: Primerless does not mean you can apply it over dirt, oil, moisture, or other contamination.
- The vehicle frame still needs preparation: Bare metal, scratches, and corrosion must be treated according to Sika’s instructions.
- UV protection still matters: Glass without a ceramic coating requires appropriate protection for the adhesive bond.
Should I Buy 1 Tube or 2?
- 1 tube may be enough: Smaller bonded quarter or vent windows, or some smaller windshields and back glass.
- 2 tubes may be needed: Larger windshields and back glass, especially where the installation requires a longer or larger adhesive bead.
- Coverage is an estimate: The amount required depends on the cartridge volume, window perimeter, bead size, and vehicle requirements. Some installations may require more than 2 tubes.
Confirm the quantity with your installer or installation specifications before starting. Have enough adhesive available to complete the entire bead. Never make the bead smaller just to stretch the supply.
What Tools and Supplies Do I Need?
- A professional application gun suitable for thick urethane. Sika recommends a powerful battery-operated gun. A basic household caulking gun may struggle to dispense this product.
- Automotive-grade glass cleaner and Sika-recommended contamination-removal supplies.
- Glass removal, trimming, lifting, and positioning tools appropriate for the vehicle.
- Any frame-treatment or primer products required for the surfaces involved.
- Suitable protective gloves, eye protection, and ventilation as directed by the Safety Data Sheet.
How to Use
Before starting: Read Sika’s current vehicle-glass replacement instructions and the vehicle manufacturer’s procedure. Confirm glass fit, adhesive quantity, product date, and working temperatures. This overview is not a complete installation procedure.
- Remove the old glass. Use the appropriate removal tools and procedure, taking care to avoid damage to the vehicle’s bonding flange, paint, and trim.
- Clean the vehicle’s bonding flange. This flange, often called the pinchweld, is the edge where the glass bonds to the vehicle. Remove dirt and debris. Address corrosion and bare-metal damage according to Sika’s treatment instructions.
- Prepare the remaining urethane. Where suitable existing polyurethane adhesive is present, follow Sika’s procedure to trim it back to approximately 1-2 mm. If the previous adhesive is not polyurethane, Sika’s illustrated procedure calls for complete removal. Do not bond over unidentified or unsuitable material.
- Clean and prepare the replacement glass. Clean the glass with automotive-grade glass cleaner. Remove remaining contamination from the bonding area using Sika’s recommended process, such as Sika PowerClean Aid where specified. Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of oil, grease, dust, and contaminants.
- Apply a continuous triangular bead. Prepare the nozzle for the bead dimensions specified for the vehicle. Hold the gun approximately 90 degrees to the bonding surface and apply an even triangular bead. Follow Sika’s instructions to avoid gaps and maintain the required bond thickness.
- Set and position the glass promptly. Install within the adhesive’s open time. After initial contact, make only small positioning adjustments. Never install glass after the adhesive has formed a skin.
- Allow the required time before driving. Observe the 3-hour Minimum Drive Away Time when used under Sika’s specified conditions. Follow all required finishing, retention, and vehicle-release procedures.
How Much Working Time Do I Have?
- Open time: Approximately 15 minutes at 73F (23C) and 50% relative humidity.
- Hot or humid conditions: Working time can be shorter. Have the glass and equipment ready before applying the adhesive.
- Skin time is not installation time: The published skin time is approximately 35 minutes under the same test conditions, but this does not extend the 15-minute open time.
What Temperatures Are Suitable for Installation?
- Adhesive inside the tube: 50-95F (10-35C).
- Surrounding air: 40-110F (4-43C).
- Glass and other bonding surfaces: 40-130F (4-54C).
Cold adhesive becomes thicker and harder to dispense. Allow the tube to reach the recommended product temperature before use. This is a cold-applied adhesive and does not require melting.
When Can I Drive, and What Should I Do After Installation?
- Minimum Drive Away Time: 3 hours when installed according to Sika’s specified conditions, tested according to FMVSS 212.
- Drive-away time is not full cure: The adhesive continues curing after the vehicle reaches its permitted drive-away time.
- Follow the installation procedure for retaining tape, trim, vehicle handling, and washing.
- Do not assume the vehicle is ready to drive just because the adhesive feels dry on the outside.
How Should I Store It?
- Store unopened tubes in their original sealed packaging in a dry indoor location below 77F (25C).
- Avoid hot vehicles, direct sunlight, and other sources of excessive heat.
- Published shelf life: 9 months under the specified storage conditions. Check the package date rather than counting from your purchase date.
- Keep the tube sealed until ready to use. Exposure to moisture starts the curing process.
- Do not assume an opened tube will keep for the remainder of its original shelf life.
Proper storage helps preserve usable shelf life. Conditioning a cold tube before application makes dispensing easier, while protecting unopened material from moisture helps prevent premature curing.
How Do I Clean Up Excess Adhesive?
- Before curing: Use Sika Remover-208 or another suitable cleaner on tools and equipment, checking compatibility with the surface being cleaned.
- After curing: Adhesive must be removed mechanically. Take care to avoid damaging glass, paint, or trim.
- On skin: Use suitable hand cleaner and water. Never use solvents on skin.
Key Features and Safe Handling

Important Installation and Safety Information
Sika specifies this product for experienced professional users only. Automotive glass bonding is a safety-critical installation. These product details and application steps are an overview, not a substitute for training or the complete installation procedure. If you are unsure about surface preparation, adhesive compatibility, bead size, or safe drive-away conditions, have a qualified automotive glass installer complete the work.
- Read before use: Always follow the current product label, Sika Product Data Sheet, Safety Data Sheet, Sika’s vehicle-glass replacement guidelines, and the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions.
- Confirm compatibility: This product is designed for automotive glass replacement. Other applications require testing with the actual materials and conditions to verify adhesion and compatibility.
- Use appropriate protection: Follow the Safety Data Sheet for ventilation, protective gloves, eye protection, and any required respiratory protection. Avoid breathing vapors or mist and avoid contact with skin and eyes.
- Understand the health risks: This product may cause an allergic skin reaction, allergy or asthma symptoms, or breathing difficulties if inhaled. Prolonged or repeated inhalation exposure may cause organ damage.
What Should I Do If Installation Conditions Are Not Right?
- If the glass or frame is wet, dirty, oily, or contaminated: Stop and prepare the surface using Sika’s recommended cleaning and contamination-removal procedure. Do not apply adhesive until the bonding surfaces are clean and dry.
- If the frame has rust or exposed metal: Remove corrosion and treat bare-metal scratches and scrapes according to Sika’s corrosion-treatment recommendations. “Primerless to glass” does not eliminate preparation of the vehicle frame.
- If the glass has no ceramic coating: Provide the proper UV protection required by Sika for the adhesive bond. Do not assume exposed adhesive is adequately protected.
- If the tube is cold or difficult to dispense: Allow the adhesive to reach its recommended application temperature of 50-95F (10-35C). Cold adhesive becomes thicker. Use an application gun suitable for high-viscosity urethane.
- If temperatures are outside the application limits: Postpone installation or bring the work area, adhesive, and bonding surfaces within the specified ranges before starting.
- If conditions are hot or humid: Expect a shorter working time. Prepare the glass and equipment in advance so the glass can be installed within the adhesive’s open time.
- If the open time has passed or the adhesive has formed a skin: Do not install the glass onto that bead. Follow Sika’s instructions for removing unsuitable material and preparing for a fresh application.
- If you do not have enough adhesive: Do not stretch the supply by reducing the required bead size or leaving gaps. Obtain enough material to complete the installation correctly.
- If the adhesive is expired, partly cured, or its storage history is uncertain: Do not assume it is suitable for a safety-critical bond. Confirm suitability with Sika or use a fresh cartridge stored under the specified conditions.
Before Driving the Vehicle
- Observe the 3-hour Minimum Drive Away Time: This applies when the product is used according to Sika’s specified installation and test conditions.
- Do not confuse drive-away time with full cure: The adhesive continues curing after the minimum drive-away period.
- Temperature and moisture affect curing: The product reacts with atmospheric moisture. Lower temperatures can slow the curing reaction. Follow Sika’s instructions rather than judging readiness by touch.
- If you suspect a bonding or installation problem: Do not drive until a qualified installer has assessed and corrected it. Waiting longer does not correct poor surface preparation, an unsuitable bead, or incorrect glass positioning.
First Aid – What to Do After Accidental Exposure
Move away from the exposure and seek medical advice as appropriate. Keep the product label or Safety Data Sheet available to show medical personnel. For severe breathing difficulty or another medical emergency, contact emergency services immediately.
- If inhaled: Move to fresh air. Consult a physician after significant exposure. Seek immediate medical attention for breathing difficulty, wheezing, or asthma-like symptoms.
- If it gets on skin: Remove contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash with soap and plenty of water. Consult a physician if irritation or other symptoms persist. Do not use solvents to clean skin.
- If it gets in eyes: Remove contact lenses and rinse while holding the eye open. Consult a specialist if irritation persists.
- If swallowed: Obtain medical attention. If the person is conscious and able to swallow, rinse the mouth and drink water as directed in the Safety Data Sheet. Do not induce vomiting unless directed by medical personnel. Do not give milk or alcoholic beverages. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
